Psarades


Psarades village is located on the shores of Megali  Prespa, 60 km from Florina and at an altitude of 850 m.,  and it's the only greek village of Megali Prespa Lake, and it has been declared to  a traditional settlement. 
In the winter the inhabitants are 100 and in the summer 120.
Main source of income of the inhabitants is fishing, livestock (rare breed of cows of vrachykeratikis race) and tourism.





The fish fauna of the region is rich and includes 18 species, of which the most important are carp, Branagh, roach, skoumpouzi, butterfly, eels, mullet, back, etc.

Lake Prespa covers an area of 272 sq. km. and has a depth of 55 m.There are observed many species of rare birds such as pelicans, herons, pygmy, cormorants etc. Also, there are slopes with mixed forests of cedar, oak, fragment. From the top Devas and the capes, Roti , Stoki  and Ag. Nikolaos you can enjoy the view. On the rocks of the coast of Prespa there are caves.


The forest of  centenarian cedars, in the church of St. George on the road to Psarades, included in the core of the Prespa National Forest, which is protected by the Ramsar treaty.
From Psarades you can visit, by  boat , the hermitages of the Virgin Eleousa, of Ascension and Transfiguration, which are located on the shores of Megali  Prespa. The Church of the Assumption in Psarades, according to the tradition, was built by craftsmen from Korce in 1903.



All the houses of the village are traditional and maintain the features of the respective houses of the time were built. In mid-August in the village square is conducted two-day festival.
