Agios Germanos

Agios Germanos is a mountain village of Florina and is located in an altitude of 1,040 meters, above the Megali Prespa Lake. It is 45 km from Florina and 44 kilometers from Kastoria and 7 km from Prespes Lakes, and for this reason they emerge clearly from the panoramic view of the village.

Although in the past the village flourished now the residents are only 250 people. People say that is the only village in the Prespa region that has maintained the old stone houses, a characteristic example of local architecture.



The visitors of Agios Germanos have to visit the vyzantine church of 10th century, Agios Germanos and the church of Agios Athanasios dating back to 17th century. Every year in 23 April and 12 of May local festival take place in Agios Germanos



In the northeast of the village, small Stara river makes its appearance with its small waterfalls, crystal clear waters and trouts. Alongside the river, through the forest road, you reach the beautiful fir forests - beech, and if you continue along the tops Kalo Nero (Bella Voda) and Mazi at an altitude of 2,156 m. and 2,060 m., respectively, the view of the lakes that will confront will be a memorable experience.

Local residents give particular importance to the continuation of their cultural heritage. As a consequence, in the village there is a Children's Lending Library, Information Center on the natural environment  and guided tours conducted by competent guides.  The effort they do is worthy of praise while important services to the development of the place offered by the Cultural Association and Society for the Protection of Prespa.

Apart from the above, it is considered remarkable and the plurality of sources situated in the broad region.   Typical are the sources "Motsara "," Drinker ", the " Outpost ", the " Prosilio " and " Giovanitsa ".

Psarades

Psarades village is located on the shores of Megali  Prespa, 60 km from Florina and at an altitude of 850 m.,  and it's the only greek village of Megali Prespa Lake, and it has been declared to  a traditional settlement. 
In the winter the inhabitants are 100 and in the summer 120.
Main source of income of the inhabitants is fishing, livestock (rare breed of cows of vrachykeratikis race) and tourism.





The fish fauna of the region is rich and includes 18 species, of which the most important are carp, Branagh, roach, skoumpouzi, butterfly, eels, mullet, back, etc.

Lake Prespa covers an area of 272 sq. km. and has a depth of 55 m.There are observed many species of rare birds such as pelicans, herons, pygmy, cormorants etc. Also, there are slopes with mixed forests of cedar, oak, fragment. From the top Devas and the capes, Roti , Stoki  and Ag. Nikolaos you can enjoy the view. On the rocks of the coast of Prespa there are caves.


The forest of  centenarian cedars, in the church of St. George on the road to Psarades, included in the core of the Prespa National Forest, which is protected by the Ramsar treaty.
From Psarades you can visit, by  boat , the hermitages of the Virgin Eleousa, of Ascension and Transfiguration, which are located on the shores of Megali  Prespa. The Church of the Assumption in Psarades, according to the tradition, was built by craftsmen from Korce in 1903.



All the houses of the village are traditional and maintain the features of the respective houses of the time were built. In mid-August in the village square is conducted two-day festival.

Oxia

Oxia , is a very old village of Prespa with remarkable houses. It is located east of Lake Mikri Prespa, at the foot of Virmpa mountain at an altitude of 880m. In Oxia it  was the seat of Moudiri of  Lower Prespa. From the ancient years in the neck that is forming from the geomorphology soil,  an important branch of the  Egnatia Street- which was in operation until 1880 -  passed from here. The ancient road  was called in Arvanite dialect  Oudde trailer (road of wolves) that mean probability Street lynxes. In Oxia , It was the headquarters of the Artillery Unit of the TER during the civil war. Near the village it was the Artillery School. The shooting range was 150-200 meters from the headquarters and billeting of the School. In the begginning of 1949 , in January , in Oxia , It was the seat of saboteur of the General Headquarters.  The Brigade saboteurs had a force of about 500 fighters. In the central square many speeches and celebrations with songs took place.

After the civil war most of the population was forced to flee to Yugoslavia and in Eastern Europe. After the war the Greek administration brought and installed in the abandoned village, Vlach settlers .

Mikrolimni

Mikrolimni (Lagk ) - Prespes - Florina


On the banks of the Lake Mikri Prespa , 37 km from Florina and 45 km from Kastoria we meet Mikrolimni. It is built at an altitude.854m. and inhabited in the winter by 60 people and in the summer by 80, with income derived from agriculture (bean cultivation), fishing and farming . In the surrounding area there are mixed beech forests, anchovy, oak and cedar.

From Mikrolimni someone can see  the largest colony of cormorants in Vidronisi island.  Within the village is the church of Ag. Athanasius, while on the road Beech-Mikrolimni there is the church of Ag. Paraskevi preserved painted wooden iconostasis. At the entrance of the village there is a three-aisled basilica of 1908. The village is celebrated on 2/5 of Ag. Athanasius.

In 1949 more than 200 residents fled to Yugoslavia and in Eastern Europe.
